On the morning of March 3, the School of Computing and Information Technology (CIT) at Eastern International University (EIU) organized a seminar titled “Generative AI: A Comprehensive Overview of Vector Database, Retrieval Augmented Generation & Knowledge Graph.” The event attracted a large number of faculty leaders, lecturers, and CIT students from the university.
The seminar featured Dr. Soumya Sen, a lecturer from the University of Calcutta (India), as the keynote speaker. Dr. Sen is a leading expert in Data Science and Generative AI, with over 130 scientific publications, three international patents, and multiple research collaborations with top universities including City University of New York (USA), Toyo University (Japan), and Ca’ Foscari University (Italy).

Overview of the seminar.
The purpose of the seminar was to provide EIU lecturers and students with updated insights into “hallucination” and “bias” in AI technologies. As Artificial Intelligence and Generative AI continue to evolve rapidly in content creation, programming, and scientific research, understanding these challenges becomes increasingly important.

Dr. Soumya Sen delivers his presentation at the seminar.
During the seminar, Dr. Sen introduced the latest applications of Vector Databases for optimizing search and data retrieval. He also discussed the role of Knowledge Graphs in helping AI systems organize information more intelligently and proposed Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) as a method to mitigate hallucinations and biases in Large Language Models (LLMs).
Dr. Sen also shared valuable insights drawn from his research experience to help the audience gain a clearer understanding of Generative AI and its foundational technologies, including the Transformer Model, Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), and Variational Autoencoders (VAEs).

Students actively engaged with Dr. Sen during the Q&A session, raising thoughtful questions about the development and application of AI.
This seminar provided faculty and students at EIU with a comprehensive understanding of how Generative AI works and its real-world applications across various fields—from scientific research and healthcare to customer service and entertainment. The event marks another important milestone in EIU’s journey to promote cutting-edge knowledge and innovation, empowering students and educators to create reliable and impactful AI solutions for the future.
