This morning (December 5), the 15th Vietnam Economists Annual Meeting (VEAM) 2024 officially opened at Eastern International University (EIU). The conference attracted many researchers and scholars from both Vietnam and abroad.
This year, EIU, in collaboration with Foreign Trade University, the Development and Policies Research Center (DEPOCEN), and the French National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), hosted the event.
This is an annual event for researchers and scholars in the fields of economics, public policy, finance, and more. Additionally, VEAM provides an opportunity for EIU lecturers and specialists to gain valuable insights and learn from research outcomes presented by economists from Vietnam and around the world, related to the conference’s topics.

Opening speech at the conference, Dr. Ngo Minh Duc – President of EIU, shared that in 2025, EIU will celebrate its 15th anniversary. The university strives to develop a comprehensive ecosystem to promote innovation and transformation in the context of Industry 4.0. EIU focuses on interdisciplinary research, application, and technology transfer to address practical local issues; fostering sustainable development driven by science, technology, and innovation. Through participation in the conference, EIU demonstrates its commitment to actively connecting with the academic community, building research collaboration networks, and exploring innovative approaches and solutions to impact the community and the national economy positively.

Following the program, Prof. Le Van Cuong – from the French National Centre for Scientific Research, Paris School of Economics – FNCSR, and Member of VEAM Professional Council, shared about the journey and development of VEAM from its inception to the present and outlined future directions for VEAM’s activities tied to scientific research in economics and finance.
The Vietnam Economists Annual Meeting takes place from December 4 to 6, 2024, with research papers presented in over 20 discussion sessions. This year, the research papers focus on topics such as Health Economics, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Technological Innovation, Human Capital, Trade and Investment, Macroeconomic Issues, Labor and Employment, Technological Innovation, Consumer Behavior, etc.
At the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Ngoc TIen – Vice President of Foreign Trade University – expressed his belief that the experts’ contributions will positively impact the program’s success.
One of the highlights of this year’s conference is the participation of keynote speakers, leading experts in the fields of finance and economics, including Prof. Raouf Boucekkine – Aix-Marseille School of Economics, Aix-Marseille University; Prof. Ian Coxhead – Institute of Developing Economics; and Prof. Đặng Việt Anh – Alliance Manchester Business School, The University of Manchester

Following the opening ceremony, the first and second sessions of VEAM were held, featuring 15 discussion panels on topics such as Health Economics, Development Economics, Environmental Economics, Technological Innovation, Human Capital, Trade and Investment, Macroeconomic Issues, and more. Notably, during the first day’s sessions, EIU presented three reports related to Finance and Investment as well as Development Economics.
In the Development Economics session, MSc. Nguyen Phan Truc Phuongg and MSc. Lam Thi Huong Tra – lecturers from the Becamex Business School (BBS) – presented the topic “Investigating the Nexus of Corruption and E-Government: New Insights from an Empirical Analysis of Digital Infrastructure.” Additionally, MSc. Tran Bao Khuyen, MSc. Huynh Minh Binh, and MSc. Dang Thai Doan – lecturers from BBS – shared their topic “Using AHP, Social Opinion Mining to Explore Challenges in Mekong Tourism: Evidence from Professionals, Academics, and Travelers.” For the Finance and Investment session, Dr. Tran Huy Tru – a lecturer from BBS – presented the topic “Monetary Sovereignty via Foreign Exchange Dependency.”

According to the schedule, the third session of the conference will take place tomorrow (December 6), featuring seven sessions focusing on topics such as Labor and Employment, Technological Innovation, Consumer Behavior, etc.
