ROS2 TRAINING: EIU ENHANCES STAFF EXPERTISE TOWARD INDUSTRY 4.0 STANDARDS

From July 28 to August 1, Eastern International University (EIU) in collaboration with the Advanced Remanufacturing and Technology Centre (ARTC) under the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR), Singapore, organized a training program titled “ROS2 Basics Training” for 10 faculty members and technical staff from the university’s School of Engineering.

Lecturers from the School of Engineering participating in the course

During the course, EIU’s lecturers and technical specialists received hands-on guidance from Uma Ramu and John Abogado on building, deploying, and evaluating robotic applications using the ROS2 platform. The training aimed to strengthen the capacity to implement advanced technology training models at EIU aligned with Industry 4.0 trends, enhance the ability to participate in the ROS-Industrial network in the Asia-Pacific region, and equip participants with foundational knowledge and practical skills in ROS2 – an open-source operating system for industrial robotic applications.

Awarding certificates to course participants

During the ROS2 training course, participants developed skills in robot system programming using Python. The practical exercises included creating packages, operating nodes, implementing Publisher–Subscriber and Request–Response models, applying Quality of Service (QoS) to manage data, using Callback Groups to enhance processing performance, exchanging data between nodes, and managing the system through launch files. The knowledge was directly applied to physical robot models, allowing participants to gain a deep understanding and practice effectively.

At the conclusion of the course, ARTC awarded certificates of completion to all 10 participants. On this occasion, EIU extends its sincere thanks to Becamex IDC Corporation for supporting the training program.
