Vision Alignment is one of EIU’s internal engagement programs designed to share the university’s vision, strategic directions, and foster dialogue and stronger connections among departments. The June edition of the program focused on the theme “Student Success: Skills Development and Career Readiness”, emphasizing the goal of enhancing educational quality and supporting students in developing both academic capabilities and practical skills to thrive in their future careers.
During the session, Mr. Mai Son Tung, Head of the Office of Student Affairs, delivered a presentation titled “Rethinking Student Success: A Broader Perspective Beyond Academic Achievement.” He emphasized the need to broaden the definition of success in higher education. In line with global trends, student success should not be measured solely by academic performance, but should also account for personal growth, experiences, and the unique developmental journey of each individual.

Dr. Nguyen Van Tan, Head of the Academic Affairs Office, introduced various models of skills training and career development currently adopted by leading institutions such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), University of Toronto, and University of Hong Kong. Through his in-depth analysis, Dr. Tan highlighted the close connection between higher education and the actual needs of the labor market. This alignment is evident in initiatives such as career exploration activities, soft skills training courses, industry-focused academic programs, and especially experiential learning models integrated into the curriculum.

In his closing remarks, Dr. Ngo Minh Duc, President of EIU, reaffirmed that supporting students’ holistic development especially in terms of skills and career readiness is a core objective of the university’s educational strategy. Achieving this goal requires synchronized and proactive collaboration among all departments from academic advising and experiential learning to industry partnerships and practice-oriented curriculum development. This is not only a shared responsibility but also an opportunity for EIU to reinforce its pioneering role in developing high-quality human resources for society.
The program also witnessed enthusiastic participation from faculty members and staff, who actively contributed ideas and shared practical teaching experiences. Their insights and proposed solutions are vital to improving the effectiveness of skill development and career guidance initiatives. These contributions reflect a deep commitment to student success and further shape EIU’s student-centered support model.
