EIU Hosts Training and Assessment of CAD Technical Drawing Skills Based on Japanese Standards

From October 22 to 26, the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) at Eastern International University (EIU), in collaboration with Kaintech Co., Ltd. and the SESPP program, organized a Skill Evaluation Trial (SET) for Level 3 CAD Technical Drawing Skills based on Japanese standards.

Dr Nguyen Trung Nghiep – Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) and Director of the Office of Research and Innovation at EIU, shares at the program.

Representing SESPP were Mr Uchino Tomohiro – Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Office, Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare of Japan; Mr Kenji Nishitani – SESPP Expert; and Ms Masako Morisawa. Representing EIU was Dr Nguyen Trung Nghiep – Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) and Director of the Office of Research and Innovation. Representing Kaintech was Mr Huynh Quoc Khanh – Director. The program also welcomed Mr Fukumori Toyoky – Director of Yumoto Vietnam Co., Ltd., as a guest. In particular, the Level 3 CAD Technical Drawing Skills Assessment attracted 14 participants, including engineers from Yumoto Vietnam Co., Ltd., Citares Co., Ltd., Dynamo Vietnam Co., Ltd., as well as the Vietnam-Singapore Industry 4.0 Innovation Center (IIC) and the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC) at EIU.

Mr Kenji Nishitani – CAD Expert of the SESPP Project, delivers remarks at the program.

During the program, Japanese experts provided direct guidance, training, and assessment of the evaluators’ professional skills through both practical and theoretical activities. Participants reviewed their skills in creating three-view drawings, adding dimensions to mechanical drawings, and practicing with Level 3 CAD examination papers from previous years.

The Organizing Committee provides an overview of the program and explains the examination rules to participants in the Level 3 CAD Technical Drawing Skills Assessment.

The program also focused on providing guidance on practical examination procedures, scoring methods, and criteria for evaluating technical drawings. Evaluators practiced grading drawings based on the provided guidelines, considering factors such as drawing accuracy, dimensioning, title blocks, drawing presentation, and work practices. Preparations for equipment, examination rooms, drawing data storage, and printing were also carried out to ensure a consistent assessment process.

Through training and practical activities, the program provides lecturers and engineers with opportunities to learn about Japanese methods of vocational skills assessment, improve their professional skills, and strengthen their ability to organize skills assessments in CAD design. The program also helps promote cooperation between EIU, businesses, and Japanese partners in technical skills training, aiming to strengthen the connection between higher education and the practical needs of the industry.
